A canvasser haunts a performative male who “forgets” to vote.
Director’s Statement
During the 2026 California primaries, I had the idea for this zero-budget (out of necessity) short that I eventually shot in August and edited in time for the 2026 midterm elections. I served as the writer/director/DP/editor and composer for the project, and Zoe Mathewson supported with various production necessities. The film stars James Wenz as Jeremy, Nate Memba as Carter the Canvasser, and Nicole Ohara as Clarissa. We shot in approximately 7 hours in Los Angeles on a Panasonic GH5. We ate pupusas for dinner, and a good time was had by all.
As a first project out of grad school, it feels like a great accomplishment (after all movies don’t just get made, you have to push the boulder up a hill somehow), and as a result, I feel more confident in my ability to keep making things no matter what.
While the film is not so explicit in the political values it’s encouraging (beyond good ol’ civic engagement and plugging the DSA voter guide at the end), the intention was to make something humorous that might inspire people to go vote who maybe needed an extra little push.
